Baptism marks the first stage of our Christian life and our beginning as followers of Jesus. After our Baptism, we are called to grow spiritually. Yes, God wants us to grow in virtue and become who he has created us to be: beloved sons and daughters. Ultimately, God wants us to become holy like the saints.
In this lesson we will learn about virtue. As children of God, we are made for freedom, not for fear. In the words of Saint Paul, “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, ‘Abba! Father!” (Rom 8:15) Being a child of God means we must banish fear and worry from our hearts because God is our Father. We must trust him because he always knows what is best for us. And he cares for us at every moment. On the other hand, the devil wants to make us slaves, especially to sin. When we do not trust that God, our Father, knows what is best for us, we easily become enslaved.
