Grade 5 Lesson 5

What is Liturgy?

As we saw in Part I, God communicates to us through signs and symbols. In this lesson, we will learn about one of the main ways God uses those signs and symbols to speak to us: the Liturgy.

Did you know God gave the Israelites specific instructions about how to worship him? For example, if someone brought a sheep or goat as a sacrifice, it had to be a male without blemish — that means free from any marks or flaws. Just like the Israelites received rules from God through Moses, we receive specific rules from the Church about how to worship God today. These rules make up the Liturgy, so we can properly celebrate the Mysteries (Sacraments).
