The most famous biblical account of temptation took place in the Garden of Eden. It involved the story of Adam and Eve and how the ancient serpent, Satan, tricked them into eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. “Satan” is another word for the devil or the Evil one, who tempts us to do wrong, turn away from God, and not follow Jesus. The serpent began by planting a doubt in the minds of Adam and Eve: “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other wild animal that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the garden?’’” (Gen 3:1). In this lesson, we are going to learn about temptation, sin, and how to use our free will to choose God.
