Think about how you feel when you and a friend are fighting. You probably feel stressed, your stomach might hurt, and you might even feel like a hundred-pound weight is on your shoulders. But now imagine how you feel when the fight ends and you have made up: Relief floods through your body, and you want to smile at everybody. You are experiencing forgiveness. Forgiveness is the choice to let go of anger and hurt. It means choosing not to stay upset or hold a grudge at someone who has hurt you. You welcome that person back as a friend, and you give them another chance. To pardon someone means to forget about punishment. It means that everything in the relationship is all right again. In this lesson, we will learn more about the Mystery of Penance and God’s love for us.
