Everyone loves a good gift. It shows the gift-giver knows us and cares about us, and often makes our life more fun! In this lesson, we are going to learn about a set of powerful gifts that come from God: the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are not things you can buy or touch. They are spiritual treasures, meant to guide you toward heaven and help you live like Jesus. They never break, get old, or go out of style. They are with you your whole life, helping you make good choices and grow in love.
When we are baptized, we become part of God’s family. But something more happens at the Holy Mystery of Chrismation (Confirmation): God pours out the Holy Spirit upon us. Usually, Baptism and Chrismation happen at the same time. So if Baptism is our birthday into the Church, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are our birthday presents from God!
