As we come to our final lesson, we are reminded that following Jesus, loving him, and seeking his kingdom is the goal of our lives. During our journey, we are called to constantly return to God, that is, to be reconciled to him.
Of all the parables in the New Testament, one really stands out. And that is the story of the Prodigal Son found in the Gospel according to Luke chapter 15, which will be explored in the Climbing the Mountain section. The Parable of the Prodigal Son has several characters. One is a son who asks for his inheritance before his father dies. He wants to take that money and enjoy life. He ends up spending all of it and becoming very poor and sad. Another character is a loving father who is willing to forgive his son when he returns. The third character is the oldest son who is upset because his father was so forgiving to his brother.
